In about an hour and 8 minutes Elena ended her match against Sybille Bammer. The Austria-girl was unable to be near a victory when Elena kept everyone serve and had no breakpoints against her. So a very good start for Elena in Stuttgart and we're hoping for more!

22.09.2008 | Safina passes Elena..

Because Dinara Safina won the Tokyo Pan Pacific Open she moves a couple of places up. She is now 3rd in the WTA Rankings, while Elena moves from 4 to 5. The whole ranking is still pretty close, with possibilities for Elena to become number 1. Althought she won't be competing in any tournament this week, the next week she will be at the tier I tournament in Stuttgart.
